Statement of Intent

Statement of Intent (Print option): The audience I intend to target with my magazine are politically aware, socially conscious upmarket demographic who are aged 16-25. This demographic will be intrigued by and watch the news daily to update themselves on the current affairs around the world. This demographic will also have high aspirations. They will be working towards a high paid job and some will currently be studying a degree at university or have already got their degree. The demographic will also already be from a financially ‘comfortable’ background and will have family members who have also studied at university in the past. Furthermore, the target audience will listen to podcasts regarding current affairs and which raise awareness to relevant news stories to further their knowledge on the subject. Public protests will also be something which this audience will attend, due to them wanting to better the world we live in and fight for equality. They will also be up to date with the current and newest technology such as the new iPhone etc, due to them being aware of changes in society. The target audience will be used on my magazine covers in some images. This group of people will be portrayed in a positive light and in a way, which is relatable for my target audience, so they can identify with the people on the cover. Images will be used which show the target audience as energetic and positive, and portray the idea that this group of people want to make a change to society, whether this is regarding global warming, protesting etc. Being in the magazine industry is all about making a successful brand. The image of the brand is very important and determines how the target audience perceives their products, such as the magazine (e.g. how reliable they are). Cross-media synergy is used throughout the magazine industry to strengthen the brands image on various platforms. This can range from linking their social media accounts to advertising merchandise. To achieve this, I will link the company’s social media accounts to the webpages and advertise the Instagram, Twitter and Facebook pages on the magazine cover. A magazine will also need a publisher. One that my magazine would appeal to would be Conde Nast. They publish for various fashion related magazines such as Vogue. Also, the target audience which is socially conscious 16-25-year olds is very similar to most brands on the portfolio, therefore I think my magazine would appeal to Conde Nast. The print products will be produced as prototypes; therefore, they may will not show all the content that was originally intended to be included. However, supporting documents will be used to explain what would have been different from the prototypes and the final print products.
